Shelter is a place to regain stability while working toward a lasting home. FPGWC primarily serves families with school-aged children who are experiencing homelessness. Our approach keeps families together and pairs a safe place to stay with case management and community support.
Each family brings its own strengths, priorities and circumstances. Staff work alongside families to identify housing barriers, connect with appropriate services and make a practical plan for the next step.
Placement depends on eligibility, the referral process and available space. Contacting Community Connect or FPGWC does not guarantee immediate shelter placement or financial assistance.
How shelter support works
1. Begin with Community Connect. The county’s coordinated access team helps assess housing needs and available referral options.
2. Work with staff on a family plan. When a family enters our program, case management helps identify goals, housing barriers and relevant community supports.
3. Prepare for housing. Families and staff work together on practical steps such as housing searches, documents, income and connections to services.
4. Build lasting stability. Support and resource connections can continue as families move toward stable housing. Services depend on program participation and capacity.
A community response
Volunteers, faith communities, businesses, donors and local partners help create a welcoming environment for families. Meals, supplies, relationships and resource connections complement the work of program staff.
